Fibromyalgia Awareness Month, is an important opportunity to raise awareness of a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. At AdaptiveComms, we believe conversations around health, accessibility, and employee wellbeing are essential in creating supportive and inclusive workplaces.
Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition that can cause widespread pain, fatigue, sleep difficulties, and problems with concentration and memory, often referred to as “fibro fog”. While symptoms can vary from person to person, many individuals living with fibromyalgia face challenges that are not always visible to others. This can sometimes make working environments more difficult to navigate without understanding and support from employers and colleagues.
As part of Fibromyalgia Awareness Day, we spoke with a member of our team who shared her personal experience of living and working with the condition. By speaking openly about the realities of fibromyalgia, she hopes to help raise awareness, encourage understanding, and reassure others that it is possible to build a successful career while managing a chronic condition.
At AdaptiveComms, we understand that every employee’s needs are different. Creating an inclusive workplace means listening to our staff, maintaining open communication, and making reasonable adjustments where needed to help employees work comfortably and confidently. Small changes, understanding management, and supportive colleagues can make a significant difference to someone managing a long-term health condition.
We also recognise the importance of normalising conversations around invisible illnesses within the workplace. Many people living with fibromyalgia may feel anxious about discussing their condition with employers or worry that it could impact job opportunities. By encouraging open and supportive conversations, businesses can help employees feel valued, understood, and empowered in their roles.
Raising awareness is not only about understanding the condition itself, but also about encouraging workplaces to consider how they can better support employee wellbeing overall. Inclusive working environments benefit everyone and help create stronger, more compassionate teams.
We would like to thank our team member for sharing her experience so honestly and helping us support this important conversation. We hope this discussion encourages greater awareness of fibromyalgia and inspires more positive conversations around accessibility, inclusion, and employee wellbeing in workplaces everywhere.
